Impromptu Science – Salt

We had an impromptu mini science lesson at lunch today about salt. I brought over two small cellars of salt – kosher and table – and thought, “hey…we should look at this under a microscope!”.  So I took DH’s pocket microscope out of a kitchen drawer.

Bean compared the difference in shape between the two types of crystal (flake/irregular vs. cube). And I went online to put a hold on The Story of Salt at our library.  It is a children’s version of Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky – a very interesting book, by the way.
