Fossils

Fossils stretched out over several weeks and multiple books (a good chunk of them featuring Mary Anning). Bean is definitely a fossil girl. She has her small collection of fossils, courtesy of Penn Dixie, and she liked being able to compare them to the pictures in some of the books. In addition to reading, I bought her a small “dig your own fossils” kit so she could experience the joys of the excruciatingly slow process of extracting fossils from a hard block of compressed sand.  I recommend having a butter knife handy if your kids lack an overabundance of patience.

Next time we do prehistory, I will probably add in making our own fossils a la plaster of paris. But I was lazy and didn’t want to deal with the mess.
