Our second unofficial week of school was a bit uneven in the actually doing school department, but we had family visiting from out of town.
Math – RS A IS FINISHED!!!!!!!! Bean finished it this morning with DH. He has been a great help teaching Bean her lessons this week. He went a bit overboard on lesson 75 (fractions), breaking out various measuring cups and colored water.
OPTGR – I should never have stopped doing this with Bean over the summer. She whined about not liking it, which lead to a reminder that sometimes there will be parts of school she doesn’t like and she will just have to suck it up and do them.
We went back several lessons and reviewed Lessons 133, 134, and 84. She’ll keep working forward from 135, but she’ll also do some remedial lessons for sounds she’s still struggling with. There are 15 lessons to be remediated – ai, ea, ue, ew, ui, oy, and oi.
Reading – Bean read a reader that had been adapted from Charlotte’s Web, and part of Cat in the Hat. My plan is to have her read out-loud to me for 15 minutes, working up to 30 minutes by the end of the school year.
Pre-History – We started the Silurian and Devonian Periods, but didn’t quite finish them. It was neat to be able to pull fossils out of her collection and relate them to pictures in the books. Bean has some nautoloids, crinoids, brachiopods, and trilobites that she collected last year.
