Chapter 4: The Old Kingdom of Egypt is the last chapter for a while that covers Egypt. I’m looking forward to a break since I am on the verge of being Egypted out. The focus on this chapter is on mummies and pyramids. We took one week per section since both are meaty enough to stand alone. We didn’t do any projects unfortunately because I have no clue how on earth to squeeze in an activity with a screaming, teething, nothing-can-appease-me-my-life-is-over 1 year old baby boy.
Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs: IMAX
David Macaulay: Pyramid (Retrospectively, probably not the best choice for a 6 yr old. She liked the animated parts, but overall the pace was a bit too slow for her)
We watched some clips on YouTube from Horrible Histories, and Mummification by historyteachers
UILE pgs 116-117
Bean liked You Wouldn’t Want to Be... overall, but she had her hand clapped over her mouth during the parts that talked about removing internal organs and putting them in canopic jars.
I am on the fence about I Am the Mummy Heb-Nefert. The meter was choppy and it was hard to get a good rhythm going while reading it. It also doesn’t say the cause of her death, which bothered me.
She read Look Inside a Pyramid out loud.
