Weekly Recap 12/2/12

This week was another week of not getting everything done. I am really glad that we are now done with cookies. It really does consume your life.

Math – We had another bad math week. We ended up doing only two lessons – 68 and 69. Hopefully with cookie season over, we’ll be able to get back into the math groove.

Rainbow Magic: The Fairy Treasure Hunt
Tigger Comes to the Forest

Current Read Alouds – Hello, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle!, Matilda

OPTGR – Lessons 214-218 completed.

FLL – Lessons 47-52 completed. Now that we’re taking a break from Explode the Code (ETC), I upped FLL from 3x per week to 5x per week. We have finally left nouns behind (yay!) and have started on verbs.

The enrichment activity after Lesson 52 has the student create a list of action verbs. I thought it would be more fun to draw pictures on index cards and them bind them together on a ring. Definitely a hit with Bean. (Jump is my favorite one.)

WWE – Week 12 completed. Bean had trouble with answering questions from the song used for for the first half of the week (“Today Is Monday”), but did fine with the questions from “Old Mother Hubbard.”

Science – We covered Lesson 12: Penguins, Ducks, & Chickens. Another popular lesson with Bean (and Bug). I really enjoy the animal books written by Gail Gibbons.

History – This week took us back to Egypt (the Middle Kingdom). The chapter itself in SOTW seemed to focus less on the Middle Kingdom and more on Nubia and the Hyskos. We did read some nice stories that were written in Ancient Egypt.  One of the, The Shipwrecked Sailor, was written during the Middle Kingdom.
