The wonderful side of the snowstorm that blasted through here yesterday was that it dumped plenty of snow – which meant we could go snowshoeing! Lucky for me there was someone at the NY State Parks Dept yesterday, and he scheduled us in for 3pm today for snowshoeing at a nearby state park (with a warming house). I had an email out to all of my parents by 11am.
For all that they had a little over 24 hours notice, eight girls and their families showed up. In the world of field trips, that is not a bad response. In all, we had around 20 people who participated. One mom was gracious enough to run to Tim Horton’s to buy hot chocolate and donuts for everyone (the troop paid for it).
The girls LOVED IT!!! Yes, they were a bit melodramatic about getting tangled in their snowshoes and falling down (entertaining to watch), but once they got the hang of it, they were off. We ended up not doing a trail walk because they were having fun tramping around a previously pristine hill of snow. We did hop a short barrier (with our guide’s permission) and go for a little bit of a walk, but by that time, they were winding down and ready for some sugar.
