This week as also a short week. We flew to Minneapolis to visit family for a long weekend. The kids had a lot of fun at the zoo, finding unique ways to utilize entertainment center stands, swimming, and going on amusement park rides at the Mall of America (which for better or worse has a Sanrio/Hello Kitty store).
Math – We finally finished MM1B! Woot! We are now officially done with first grade math after two weeks of second grade! And then we didn’t do any math for the rest of the week because of our trip.
Reading – Bean had to have read something. I know she did Monday-Wednesday, bur for the life of me I couldn’t tell you what it was.
Ribsy – though it’s looking like this one is going to fall by the wayside. Bean asked if we had to finish reading it. I don’t know if two animal books in a row did her in, or if she just isn’t interested in the story.
History – We continued with Chapter 2: Early Days of Britain. All we did this week was to finish up Life of the Ancient Celts. I packed several King Arthur books in anticipation of some reading time on our trip, but it didn’t happen. Instead, I lugged multiple books halfway across the continent and back.
Science – Both the library copy and Amazon copy of our experiment book arrived, but I didn’t have the time to sit down and get everything together. Hopefully in the next week or so we’ll have an experiment extravaganza. We did however complete all of Lesson 2: Earth From Space / Day and Night, and start Lesson 3: Seasons & Weather. I found a lot of really neat books and video clips for Lesson 2. Bean chugged through a lot of them, but instead of burning her out, I just made note of the rest of them for future reference.
For Lesson 3: Seasons & Weather, we read the Usborne Encyclopedia section, a Gail Gibbons book, and watched a Bill Nye episode. I forgot to grab the narration sheet for this, so Bean completed seasons section of the lesson after we returned from our trip.
PHOTOS – they’re not the greatest quality because they were taken with my phone.
