Meet the Masters: Hokusai

As part of “school-lite” this week, Bean requested that we do some Meet the Masters. We haven’t done any since April (O’Keefe), which is a shame, but it is hard to figure out how to fit it in. It does take a little bit of time, but mostly it’s because I don’t want to deal with the two little ones and art supplies. If they see it, they want to do it, and that complicates things immensely. Which is why my kitchen table is now covered in black ink, and why my 2-year old is screaming (because I wouldn’t let him take the ink and a paintbrush into the living room).

One Minute in a Museum: Artworks: “Two Carps” by Katsushika Hokusai (DES+) –> This video was fairly worthless. The characters were loud and annoying and very little information was given.
Japanese Prints: The Floating World: The Landscapes of Hokusai (DES+)

The art project for Hokusai was to make bamboo paintings, specifically holding the brush in the appropriate manner for the three types of strokes needed.
