It’s been an incredibly long time since I’ve posted about the games we’re currently playing as family. There was quite a dry spell for a while (blame grad school on this one too), but now it seems to be picking up again.
Bug’s Top Games from February 2013. (almost 3 yrs old at the time)
Bean’s Top Games from October 2012. (around 6 1/2 yrs old at the time)
My almost-4-year-old, Bug, absolutely adores both Fruttirelli and Hoot, Owl, Hoot (both images are linked). The former game is a competition, with each animal needing to collect one of each of three fruits and then make it back to their burrow before any other player. Things are livened up a bit by the fact that you can move trees around to create blockades. The latter game, is cooperative. Either all of the owls make it back to their nest before the sun comes up, or they don’t. Players work together to accomplish this.
Bug has also taken a shine to Tell Tales: Fairy Tales. She gets the gist of the game even if she’s not quite old enough for it. There are several different ways to play, but when playing with her, we usually deal 6 cards and put them in some sort of order to create a story.
The final game on this list is The Settlers of Catan. We’ve had the Junior version for over a year, and it has been one of Bean’s favorites from the get-go. She recently started playing the original version with DH and I, and she loves this one too. Expansion sets will be going on my birthday wishlist.
