SOTW2: Ch 31 & 32

Chapter 31: Exploring New Worlds. This chapter covered three explorers: Columbus, Vespucci, and Magellan. Anne was visiting during the time we covered this, so she got roped into reading and doing activities. So this was the rare chapter when Bean actually made something.

Horrible Histories: Captivating Columbus
Exploring the World: Christopher Columbus and the New World
Exploring the World: Ferdinand Magellan and the First Voyage Around the World
Early Explorers: The Age of Discovery
(we didn’t watch this one, but I wanted to include it on the list for others)

One of the activities in the AG from this chapter was to make a vinegar/baking soda boat. It is not a quick project because you need to wait for the glue to dry before putting the boat in the water. Bean had fun with it, though she’s a sucker for any vinegar/baking soda experiment.

Chapter 32: The American Kingdoms. This chapter covers the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas. We spent a longer time on this chapter because of the number of books that I checked out from the library. Again, Anne was roped into doing a lot of reading during her visit, which is part of the reason we were able to read so many of them.
