Chapter 33: Spain, Portugal, and the New World. This chapter is split between a very brief overview of the beginnings of the slave trade, and Cortes and Montezuma. It took us about 15 minutes to cover slavery. We read SOTW and watched a short video on DES. I don’t really want to go too in depth on this topic right now. I more want Bean to be aware that it existed and was a large part of European exploration/expansion into the Americas.
*We only read the last two pages of Hernan Cortes, which covered what happened after he conquered the Aztecs.

Chapter 34: Martin Luther’s New Ideas. This chapter is split into two sections. The first covers Martin Luther, and the second Henry VIII. Bean liked learning about Henry VII, even though she didn’t particularly care for the beheadings – less because of delicate sensibilities and more because she didn’t think it was right for him to be allowed to do it on a whim.
The Protestant Reformation (1517-1565): Martin Luther (1483-1546)
*I had meant to have Bean watch a couple of clips on the Protestant Reformation in England, but didn’t realize I’d forgotten them until after we’d moved on to the next chapter.
